Breathe regularly and deeply, relax and gaze at the picture as you meditate.

 

 

There is a difference between prayer, meditation, and contemplation.  When we pray, we talk to God.  We usually ask for something, or thank God for giving us what we have asked for.  Sometimes in prayer, we just express our love and devotion.  In meditation, it is said that we listen to God.  We try to empty our mind and hear what God has to say to us. If we are successful at emptying our mind of the daily chaos, we expect that we will gain insight and wisdom from the Infinite Spirit.   In contemplation, sages suggest that we hold a two-way conversation with God.  Both asking and receiving, thanking and listening.  Contemplation is the surest goal of the soul.  I recommend Paths to Contemplation by Yves Raguin.
